Kid's Page

Booker is in charge now that Dewey has passed, but Dewey's spirit and memory are still very much alive in Black River Books.

Kids love these new books. Below a very young book lover reaches for a treasure!

Read more about Booker & Dewey on their own page.

Booker fell in love with Laurie Keller, author and illustrator of children’s books from N. Muskegon. He’s wanted us to carry all her books ever since she came for a visit and book signing our first year. Adults and children alike love her imaginative and clever books on subjects that don’t always interest children: geography, manners, going to the dentist. Booker especially likes “Arnie the Doughnut,” as you can see!

Some of Laurie's books are shown here.

Laurie's first two books, in the Arnie the Doughnut series,"The Adventures of Arnie the Doughnut: Bowling Alley Bandit" and "Invasion of the UFONuts," have been very popular with the chapter-book set.

New Interactive Book, Campfire Stu & The Backwoods Jamboree is by
Stevesville resident, Mike Struwin.

Mike is both author and musician, and has a free download of his music to listen to along with the story. He will be at Black River Books for a meet and greet December 8. He'll sign his books and  sing and play for us.

Here is the third in the Arnie the Doughnut series for older kids and Laurie's newest book for wee ones.

Local author and illustrator, Leslie Helakoski, has written and illustrated these two books. "Doggone Feet"  is a dog's eye view of a growing family. "Hoot and Honk" tells of a gosling and an owlet whose eggs are reversed in a storm. When they hatch, they find that their nest mates have a different sleep schedule.

As the legend has it, all mermaids have a special gemstone that once found gives the mermaid her special powers and lets the true color of her tail shine. Tallulah had searched all the world's oceans and couldn't find her stone. The wise old sea turtle helps her out by taking her to the Great Lakes.

Sandra Boynton's board books are always a favorite for Wee Ones.

Besides the above carefully selected new children's books, are many used books in the following categories.

Hardy Boys & Nancy Drew.

Children's classics, biography and educational.

Young adult books.

Kid's storybooks.

Kid's room classics, like "Tom Swift" "The Happy Hollisters", and "Honey Bunch".

Children's Religious books.
